At 6.740 meters high (22.113 feet), the Kawa Karpo is Yunnan's highest peak and it marks the border with Tibet. It is, more importantly, a magical and awe-inspiring sight, the first "taste" of Himalaya if you come from Shangri-la.
Tibetan pilgrims progress for thousands upon thousands of kilometers up and down mountains in their pilgrimage to Lhasa by prostrating themselves fully at each step, then moving forward as they get up, in such a way that they have lain on their face on each part of the route. Each three paces involves a full prostration; the number three is taken to refer to the Triple Gem.
